NBA ATTENTION DRAW BY SUPREME CORT DECISION

Kahmandu, 28 Dec.: Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has said its attention has been drawn towards the Supreme Court refusing to register the petition seeking a review of the apex court's recent verdict regarding the extension of the CA term filed on behalf the government and the Legislature-Parliament, RSS reports.

The Association through a press release today made it clear that it is its stated view that the new constitution should be promulgated within the stipulated time after the election of the Constituent Assembly and now within the extended period.

"The CA's continued move to extend its tenure is inconsistent with democratic norms one and is against the principle of sovereignty vested in the people," the statement added.

Besides, the Association further said that it would play a role of a facilitator to avert any possible conflict between the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary. Following this, a meeting of the NBA's advisory committee has been called for tomorrow to discuss the issue.

Nepal Bar Association is an umbrella organization of legal practitioners.

It may be noted that the apex court had refused to register the petition sent by the Legislature-Parliament, seeking review on the court's November 29 verdict about the CA deadline.
