PLA WANTS INTEGRATION MODALITY

Kathmandu, 30 Sept.: People’s Liberation Army (PLA) commanders in the cantonments have sought from their leadership a clear cut modality for integration and rehabilitation and a credible assurance of the writing of the new constitution before they are formally brought under the command and control of the special committee- a government formed body for supervising, integrating and rehabilitating Maoist combatants, Kiran Chapagain reports in Repbulica.
PLA commanders forwarded their conditions to their deputy commanders who have been touring different cantonments to prepare PLA members for the much awaited process of integration and rehabilitation of over 19,000 Maoist army personnel.
“They asked us about the modality of their integration and rehabilitation and sought credible assurance about the writing of a new constitution that will reflect their aspirations for change, including a guarantee of state restructuring,” Janardhan Sharma, a member on the special committee who visited the cantonments to brief combatants about the recent developments concerning management on ex-Maoist fighters, told Republica Tuesday.
All PLA deputy commander have been touring major cantonments to brief commanders about the September 16 decision of a the special committee to in principle disassociate the PLA from the Maoist party.

DEUBA SIDE TO BE DENIED IMPORTANT PARTY POSTS

Kathmandu, 30 Sept.: Newly elected NC President Sushil Koirala won’t give the vice-presidency and general secretary posts to rival Sher Bahadur Deuba group, Kantipur reports quoting an unidentified senior party source.
Deuba side has been demanding either the post of vice-president or general secretary and joint general secretary.
To forge party unity—a message given by the general convention—Deuba faction will be accommodated in the central committee, parliamentary committee and business advisory committee.
