Two injured in by-election firing

Kathmandu, 10 April: Two persons were injured in firing in Dhanusha during parliamentary by-elections Friday for a seat vacated by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, a journalist from the scene said.
The president’s son is contesting the seat on a Nepali Congress ticket.
The journalist said CPN-UML activists were behind the shooting.
By-elections are being held for six parliamentary constituencies.
Five lawmakers, including Prime Minister Prachanda and Sher Bahadur Deuba, vacated one of two seats from where they were elected in the 10 April 2008 constituent assembly elections,
The nine –hour voting started at eight in the morning.

President, prime minister hold discussions

Kathmandu, 10 April: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and
Prime Minister Prachanda held an hour-long discussion, including the disruption of cabinet and parliamentary meetings.
The meeting was the first after the premier’s return from Norway and Finland.

PM asked to furnish reply in one week

Kathmandu, 10 April: A one-man bench of the supreme court Friday asked Prime Minister Prachanda to furnish a written reply within seven days on a contempt of court charge.
Five other Maoists, including Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai,have also been asked to respond to the same charge.
Maoists in public statements hurled personal abuses against the supreme court and judges who asked the Maoist-led government to reinstate eight brigadier generals whose tenure was not extended on recommendation of Nepal Army.
